The Chair of the Board of Directors of the Concept Foundation, Dr Timothy Nielander, announced the appointment of Dr A. Metin Gülmezoglu as its new Executive Director from 1 July 2019 following the retirement of Dr Hans Vemer.
Prior to joining the Concept Foundation Metin Gülmezoglu worked for 21 years at HRP, the main instrument within the United Nations system for research in human reproduction. Since 2013 Metin Gülmezoglu coordinated the team on maternal and perinatal health and safe abortion as well as leading its research capacity strengthening portfolio. Metin Gülmezoglu is widely regarded as a leader in global sexual and reproductive health research and research synthesis and led a number of key WHO multi-country research projects during his WHO career.

Metin Gülmezoglu has published more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific articles and is an editor with the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group. He graduated as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in Turkey and completed his PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa before joining HRP in 1998. Dr Gülmezoglu is an honorary member of The Society for Maternal and Fetal Medicine in the U.S.A. and an honorary fellow the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRCOG (Hon)) in the United Kingdom.
