A. Metin Gülmezoglu
Metin Gülmezoglu completed his medical degree and qualified as an obstetrician and gynaecologist in Turkey. He then worked at the University of the Witwatersrand as a clinician and researcher in South Africa completing his PhD in 1996. Between 1996 and 1998 he worked at the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit and UK Cochrane Centre in Oxford, UK.
In 1998, Metin joined the World Health Organization, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Research Department (includes the UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme – HRP) where he worked until July 2019. He was the coordinator for maternal and perinatal health, safe abortion and research capacity strengthening at WHO.
Metin worked extensively on systematic reviews within and outside the Cochrane Collaboration, conducted large observational studies and randomized controlled trials in key interventions to improve maternal and perinatal health with over 350 peer-reviewed articles published. Metin is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the UK and honorary member of The Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine in the U.S.A.
Programme Officer – Manufacturing & Development
Alessandra Fleurent holds a BA in Public Health from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, USA, and a MSc in Epidemiology from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. After obtaining experience at several NGO’s, she joined Concept Foundation in 2015.
She is Programme Officer for the Manufacturing and Development team. She coordinates projects aimed at increasing the selection of quality-assured SRH technologies available for procurement, through working directly with manufacturers, as well as through research and development studies and improving existing SRH technologies to better address technological gaps in the selection of products available.
Chief Technical Advisor
Alessandra Tomazzini holds a BSc. in Pharmacy and is a postgraduate in both Quality Management and Quality Engineering. Alessandra has over 20 years’ experience in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and Final Pharmaceutical Products (FPP) operations. She has managed projects such as plant start-up of both API and FPP sites for sterile, hormonal, cytotoxic drugs in solid, semi-solid and liquid forms and has provided support for companies to obtain GMP certification.
As Head of Technical Services, she oversees the organisation’s technical activities relating to product development, transfer of technology and support to API and FPP manufacturers on GMP.
Anne Ammerdorffer has a BSc. and MSc. Biology from Wageningen University and obtained her PhD from the RadboudUMC, the Netherlands.
She worked several years as a scientist on Chlamydia-related bacteria, with a focus on immunology, female reproductive health and innovative Point-of-Care tests.
She coordinates clinical research projects and is responsible for the landscape analysis and finding new promising innovations in the field of reproductive and maternal health.
Arinze holds an MSc. in Global Health from the Institute of Global Health of the University of Geneva with specializations in digital health, bio-finance and access to medicines in resource-constrained settings.
Before the Masters, he completed his studies from the University of Lagos with a Pharmacy degree, following which he worked at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital as a clinical pharmacist and at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control as a regulatory pharmacist.
Arinze is the regulatory associate at Concept Foundation supporting the regulatory affairs team for registration and other regulatory processes for SHRH medicines.
Business Development Manager
Chadia Allaouidine started her studies in Political Sciences at the University of Geneva, Switzerland before moving to London, UK to study Global Governance and Public Policy at Birkbeck University. She completed a certificate in Strategic and Operational Marketing ahead of joining CF as a Programme Officer supporting the Access to Family Planning Programme in 2015. In 2019 she moved into the role of Business Development Manager, managing CF’s services contracts with its manufacturing partners.
Katja Weigl holds an MSc. in Economics and Management, with specialization in Development Economics and International Management from Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen.
She has obtained certifications in Project Management and in Public Procurement. She has worked for a number of years in international organizations and public administration, including in health promotion, allowing her to develop expertise in international project management and the coordination of partnerships, budget management and grant administration, and economic analysis.
At Concept Foundation, in her role as Office Manager she ensures office efficiency and success.
Director of Programmes
Lester Chinery is Director of Programmes at Concept Foundation and Program Director for the Quality of Reproductive Health Medicines program.
Lester has over 20 years of senior level Reproductive Health/Family Planning experience working with Concept, the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and its subsidiary company ICON Ltd, which he founded in 2000, serving as its Managing Director/IPPF Director of Procurement Services until 2008. Prior to that, Lester was Contraceptive Social Marketing Manager for the IPPF European Network, introducing a range of low-cost contraceptives across Eastern Europe in partnership with commercial manufacturers. He was IPPF’s first representative at the time of formation of the RHSC and served on the Executive Committee in 2006.
Senior Regulatory Advisor
Mark Laws studied Pharmacy at Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom.
He has worked for a number of years as a Quality Assurance Pharmacist and then moved into a Regulatory role within Janssen-Cilag.
As Senior Regulatory Advisor at Concept Foundation he supports the registration of new maternal health drugs worldwide. Alongside this he also provides regulatory advice to partner product manufacturers.
Programme Manager – Manufacturing & Development
Petra studied Biomedical Sciences with Pharmacology followed by a Masters in Clinical Pharmacology, Drug Development and Biobusiness, at the University of Aberdeen. After her studies, she moved straight from a voluntary Internship at WHO in the Pharmacovigilance department to her first role at CF in 2011.
She has since supported CF’s work on Quality of SRH medicines, initially as Programme Officer for the QuRHM programme, then as Programme Manager, Access to Family Planning, managing CF’s work on increasing access to Injectable Contraception before moving into her current role as Programme Manager, Manufacturing and Development.
Sara Rushwan holds a BSc in Pharmacology, a PhD in Respiratory Immunology from King’s College London, and an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK.
In between her studies, she worked with NGOs in the USA and Sudan coordinating research and advocacy activities related to maternal health and Gender-Based Violence.
At Concept Foundation, she is Programme Officer for the Research and Innovation and Country Support teams. She coordinates projects aimed at strengthening national and regional policies and guidelines to improve access to quality-assured and affordable, preventive and therapeutic PPH medicines in high-burden countries and supports pilot implementation projects.
Head of Finance
Pattama Nanakin holds a BA in Auditing and an MBA. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Thailand. She has experience with Deloitte Touch Tohmatsu Jaiyos Audit Co., Ltd., and has accumulated her experience as internal auditor and Head of Finance in several types of business, including restaurant chain and IT service provider. She has also worked with an American NGO, before joining Concept Foundation in March 2004, where she is now the Head of Finance.
International Regulatory Affairs Manager
Wallada Im-Amornphong is the Regulatory Affairs Manager of Concept Foundation, based in Thailand. Wallada has over 20 years’ experience in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs, with specific expertise in regulatory strategy, freedom to operate analysis, regulatory submission, compliance, and technical issues. She has extensive knowledge and experience in WHO prequalification and pharmaceutical product registrations worldwide.
Wannaporn Tepraska earned her BSc. in Medical Technology from Chulalongkorn University and her MBA in Logistics Management from Ramkhamhaeng University. She also has a B.Acc from University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce.
She has experience in the field of clinical research of anti-malarial drugs, HIV and Tuberculosis, and she has worked as Laboratory Coordinator and Biobank Project Manager.
She is the Projects Administrator and supports the teams on payments, expense tracking and coordination of financial matters. She works closely with the Program Managers on budget monitoring and prepares project financial reports to be submitted to donors.
