Concept Foundation is an international non-governmental and not-for-profit organization, based in Bangkok, Thailand. With offices in Geneva, Switzerland and Hanoi, Viet Nam, and an extensive network of dedicated technical expertise in more than 10 countries, Concept supports the introduction and promotion of essential healthcare products around the world, focusing specifically on under-served markets in low-income countries, where the needs are most acute.

Our primary focus is on products for reproductive and maternal health as a means of contributing to the intergovernmental Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 5: “To improve maternal health”. This goal aims to ensure that women, in particular, in less-developing countries have equitable access to essential, affordable healthcare products of assured quality.  

We endeavour to achieve this through collaborating and assisting pharmaceutical companies to; provide access to affordable essential drugs in developing countries, one of the key targets of MDG 8, and supporting their wide availability by identifying effective distribution channels, developing and implementing introductory strategies and the provision of information and training materials.

Concept Foundation takes pride in being one of the first Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) for health products, and was initially established under an innovative collaborative agreement with WHO in 1989, for the out licensing of critical research and intellectual property for the manufacture of vital drugs to benefit the poor.  It has developed extensive experience in partnering with pharmaceutical manufacturers in developing countries, and in facilitating access to affordable products of assured quality in lower and middle income countries. This philosophy, combined with the significant experience acquired over 20 years remains the basis of Concept Foundation’s business model.

Concept specializes in identifying innovative new approaches for accessing country markets, in collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry for the benefit of women with limited ability to pay for health products and services. In the process we have built up a wealth of know-how and expertise in areas that have only recently begun to be explored by some of the newer partnerships focusing on medicines for neglected diseases.
